Freeware/Shareware Recovery Software

There are a number of free software packages offering data recovery utilities. Be aware, however, that some of this freeware remains untested and may be unreliable. The reason for this is that building a good quality, reliable software program to help rebuild corrupt files of various types can take a long time in development. This time is what is stopping programmers from building ever more reliable shareware. It takes time and money to build quality data recovery software tools, only to give them away for free.

With that said, there are numerous titles available that really are free and really do work. Keep in mind that the recovery solutions they provide are somewhat limited in terms of what os they work with, and what file types they can retrieve. If you are running a newer os - and newer program that you are trying to recover data from, you may find that these programs are of no use to you whatsoever. The best data recovery software costs money, and if your data is really that important, then you may want to consider making an investment to protect your valuable data.

Shareware titles are also available, more so than freeware titles, as you pay for shareware and not for freeware. Shareware also results in more people and organizations buying the full or professional versions, hence greater availability.

Be careful when choosing the freeware and shareware data recovery programs you find. Always review each tool and title, and look for others on forums, blogs, or discussion groups who may have had some experience with a particular tool in the past. Always be careful when using any sort of data recovery software tool, as using it without knowing what you or understanding it's full operational potential may result in further data loss.

Remember - you get what you pay for.  Don't expect freeware, or shareware recovery software to solve complex data loss situations.

Data recovery software is the most common method of recovery for most data loss situations. Recovery software can recover accidentally deleted files, retrieve data from a drive with a damaged boot sector, and much more.

Recovery software starting at $129.00.
